WELCOME TO FINNISH CLASS
Foundation Course
2 weeks
On Foundation course student will study the fundamental Finnish in English – Finnish, Finnish – Finnish, native language – Finnish. Moreover, there are session for technical check (students are instructed to all platforms that will be used in the Finnish class – Google classroom, Skype, Zoom, and Canvas), Equalture, and eMath. After 2 weeks, students will be assigned to their own homeroom teachers.
Newbie Level
17 weeks
Student will learn the basics of Finnish language. During the course one A1.3. test will be done latest at week 8. Test is not fail/pass but it gives important information about the language profile.
A2.2 Test
2 weeks
The test is divided into four skills with no retakes, all students take all parts once.
Advanced Level
17 weeks
During the course continuous evaluation will help the student develop all the four language skills.
B1.1 Test
2 weeks
In the end of the program, the B1.1. test will be done which is similar to the A2.2 test. Students who don’t pass will be given extra tasks and feedback what and how to improve. They may need to get support lessons and after few weeks, they can retake the skills that they have not passed.
Language learning is a spiral, where different themes are repeated three times during the studies. Each time learner gets deeper understanding and uses the language in more complicated situations.
- 2 main levels 0-A2.2. (Newbie) and A2.2.-B1.1. (Advanced).
- Continuous evaluation instead of high stakes tests. Students must do certain amount of evaluative tasks during their course.
- Interaction based learning. Not communicating during the lessons is considered as an absence.
- 4 report cards throughout the program, weekly letters. Evaluation: Practice more / Meeting the expectations / Exceeding the expectations
